What We Do

The future of the Trust is in the hands, hearts and minds of the Groote community as custodians into the future and the intended legacy of the Management Committee is to build an indigenous business model of best practice for the purpose of providing charitable assistance to the people of Groote Eylandt.

Achievements

Since the appointment of the Management Committee in 2015:

  • GEAT has received unqualified audit reports for financial years 2015/2016, 2016/17 and 2017/18.
  • All activities of GEAT are dynamically and independently audited.
  • Fraud control measures and plans are implemented.
  • The Trust Deed continues to be reviewed and updated to provide greater protections to Preservation Fund.
  • New accountants, auditors and fund managers were appointed to provide clear and independent accountabilities.
  • Bank accounts were streamlined to support operations and produce clear reporting.
  • An accurate asset register was developed and rationalised.
  • Total operational costs were reduced, aligned to specific activities and a new operational structure was implemented.
  • Policy guidelines were developed to ensure that charitable programs support all beneficiaries.
